Ink 19 :: Murder City Devils
December 1998 :: Music L-O :: Murder City Devils (Gail Worley)
Murder City Devils Empty Bottles Broken Hearts Sub Pop Seattle’s Murder City Devils are ready to give ’90s rock a badly-needed slap in the face. Mixing old school hardcore and garage rock spiked with elements of surf, rockabilly, and horror movie farfisa organ, they can’t be accused ...
Ink 19 :: Murder City Devils
March 1998 :: Music J-M :: Murder City Devils (James MacLaren)
Murder City Devils Empty Bottles, Broken Hearts Sub Pop Well I'm getting sick of this crap. All of a sudden the whole world has decided to start releasing CDs with one or two really nice cuts at the very beginning and then fill the rest of the fucking thing up with... what? Buncha damn crap, that's ...

MURDER CITY DEVILS IN NAME AND BLOOD Sub Pop They've still got it. The rock is in their blood, and no apologies are made, or needed. Many bands are trying to go where these guys are going, but so far none get there quite as good. You know what it is. It's rock and roll. It's raw, and this album, as ...
Ink 19 :: Free the West Memphis Three
In 1993, three boys were tried and convicted for murder -- not based on physical evidence, but on the grounds that they were 'Satanists' because they listened to heavy metal and read books by Stephen King. Despite a national outcry and an Academy Award-winning documentary on the case, the boys are still in prison. Supersuckers' frontman Eddie Spaghetti put together a compilation to help Free the West Memphis Three, and recently discussed the compilation and the case with Sean Carswell.
THE EVIL POWERS OF ROCK AND ROLL: THE SUPERSUCKERS' EDDIE SPAGHETTI WORKS TO FREE THE WEST MEMPHIS THREE On May 5, 1993, three 8-year-old boys were brutally murdered in West Memphis, Arkansas. The small town was terrified, and the small town police department had no idea how to deal with a murder of ...
Ink 19 :: The Hookers
The Hookers (Cold Crush). Review by Aaron Shaul.
THE HOOKERS THE HOOKERS Cold Crush I have to preface this review by stating that I am a fairly devout fan of the Murder City Devils. They fill a need for festering gutter punk/horror rock that I haven't been able to shake yet. Much to my embarrassment I even had a cactus named Lil' Spencer Moody (after ...
Ink 19 :: Calibretto
Dead By Dawn (Standard). Review by Aaron Shaul.
...before receiving this album to review. Apparently they've taken a darker, more ominous turn this time around, but it's kind of hard to tell. The opener, "Come See the Meatboy," features an extended sample of sinister laughter from Evil Dead 2 (that film's subtitle also being this album's namesake) behind...
Ink 19 :: Adventures In Stereo
Adventures In Stereo, with the Chamber Strings and the Waxwings at Gracland in Seattle, WA on September 19, 2000. Concert review by Marcel Feldmar.
ADVENTURES IN STEREO WITH THE CHAMBER STRINGS AND THE WAXWINGS Graceland, Seattle, WA September 19, 2000 by Marcel Feldmar Shows like this make me feel a little bit embarrassed to say that I'm from Seattle. A city with a thriving music scene, a city that has helped change music... a city that refuses ...
Ink 19 :: Old 97's
Satellite Rides (Elektra). Review by Sean Slone.
OLD 97'S SATELLITE RIDES Elektra Satellite Rides is the first great top-down-on-the-convertible spring record of 2001. From the first big beat of "King of All the World" to the final slightly creepy notes of "Nervous Guy," the record puts all the elements together, combining the cow-punk that was the ...
Ink 19 :: 7even Inches
October 1998 :: Columns :: 7even Inches (David Lee Beowülf)
Adolf and the Piss Artists Heroes? 7" GMM Obnoxious punk rock along the lines of the Old Masters. Those being, X, the Germs, Pain... "Terminator" is as ballsy as they come. Damned impressive punk rock. Now I have to search out the Valves' catalog... GMM Records, P.O. Box 15234, Atlanta, GA 30333 - ...
Ink 19 :: Give the People What We Want
The Songs of The Kinks (Sub Pop). Review by Daniel Mitchell.
GIVE THE PEOPLE WHAT WE WANT THE SONGS OF THE KINKS Sub Pop The Kinks are one of the forgotten greats of yesteryear; they were rockin' out before you were even a glimmer in your mom's eye. It's nice to see a tribute to them, although a tribute of more rockin' bands might have been better (a Relapse ...
