Bang City Records

Cute name. Here's a happy, hoppy disk of party music that's not particularly techno, and it isn't really any more gay here than any other club scene. Title track "Top Less Gay Love Tekno Party" rips as a call-and-response party starter that serves to get everyone on their feet. It's an adenoidal vocal with a hovering female chorus in back. No heart-stopping drops here; instead it is a steady beat with more involved lyrics than Afrojack or Tiësto. "Colleen Harper" tackles falling in love with the arty person next door, and the overall effect is an Electric Six song with more strings. It's the track the band is pushing as its potential hit. Colleen has skinny legs, a black beret, and according to the lyrics might be more than she appears.

Singer Mike Shindler vocally recalls "Sparks" in their Giorgio Moroder days. He's a register higher than most male rockers and his lyrics float above the band. Not everything here is a pop-flavored dancesicle; "Polar Bears" takes a slower tack on the rocky road of love songs with the great verse: "Hold me tight so we don't get frostbite,It's a shit hotel and it's gonna be a long night, And just because it's bathrobes don't mean that it's luxury, I won't put mine on so you don't stop touching me." It's sexy, but the in the worst kind of way -- passive-aggressive. The band is bigger than most with seven full time members including two drummers, three guitarists, and a pair of keyboard players. The result is a pleasantly complex combination of dance, pop, and symphonic sounds. You can't stay sad with TLGLTP in your ear buds; they've already cheered me up today.
