And One

Bodypop

Metropolis Records

Following their 2004 opus Aggressor, And One present their latest masterpiece with style. While their previous album was performed exclusively in German, Bodypop is delivered predominantly in English. The album's opener "Mein Anfang (My Beginning)" sets the tone for what lies ahead. "Military Fashion Show" (also the album' first single) follows with pounding beats and an equally stunning delivery. Deep analog bass lines combine with Steve Naghavi's emotive vocals to place you in orbit. Be warned that this one is flammable and may set dance floors ablaze. "Enjoy the Unknown" is a mid-tempo gem that tantalizes the senses. The female background vocals add a nice touch to Naghavi's songwriting forte. This is one of my favorite tracks and finds itself on repeat mode. "So Klingt Liebe" picks up the pace and shows off the band's synth-pop roots. It even hais a guitar sample reminiscent of the Depeche Mode classic "Personal Jesus."

After a slower piece, "Body Company" raises the mercury to the boiling point. It's a brutal and aurally satisfying expose that hums like a fine-tuned engine. Naghavi fires on all cylinders with precision programming. The catchy chorus "sex will cover your black machinery" will bring the masses to their feet. Giving the listener a breather, "Traumfrau" combines vocal samples and massive percussion. The upbeat "Stand the Pain" reminds me of the trio's trademark synth-pop classics. The second single "Sexkeit" showcases Naghavi's mastery of melodic design on a more experimental canvas. A symphony of vocal samples accompany the musically engaging track. The pop heavy "Love You to the End" grips you and never lets go. You will love this one to the very end! Bringing the album full circle is "Dein Ende (Your End)," an instrumental work of art. This brilliant song continually builds at every corner, leading up to a jaw-dropping climax. A standing ovation is in order here.

With the release of Bodypop, And One reposition themselves as true masters of their craft. Anyone with an ear for high quality EBM music will be hooked.
