The Vulcan Freedom Fighters

Stardate Unknown

Alien Communication Recordings

Calling all Trekkies!! The resident Trekkie here at Ink19.com has the greatest ode to Star Trek (possibly) of all time. Stardate Unknown by a duo who calls themselves The Vulcan Freedom Fighters is the perfect tribute to the show that has spawned five spin-offs, roughly a dozen movies and millions upon millions of fans who are more than willing to wear the goofy lapel pin, throw up the Vulcan hand sign and speak in Klingon.

When I first put this album in and pressed play, I had no clue what to expect. Would it be a bunch of cheesy punk songs rhyming Klingon with “bring it on?” Would it be some sort of strange ranting diary of why "Star Trek" is the greatest thing to happen since Civil War reenactments? It’s much more than either would suggest. Christopher Haines and Brandon Wiggins take ambient techno drones and stoner rock and combine numerous audio from numerous "Star Trek" episodes to create one of the strangest yet fulfilling albums ever… that’s solely dedicated to the show.

But wait! There’s more!

Not only are there blips and clips from the original "Star Trek,' but there are also little bits from AC/DC, "The Sopranos," Metallica and Vic Mackey (Michael Chiklis’s character from "The Shield"). What more could you ask for?!

As The Vulcan Freedom Fighters themselves say, “[We] may have gone boldly where no band has gone before, or should necessarily go in the future.” Honestly, I don’t think I could have said it better myself. I don’t think that it could be done any better than Stardate Unknown. If you’re a Trekkie, check out this album.
