Aside from the Miles Davis cover of "All Blues," the Chaplin/Parsons/Phillips cover of "Smile" and the really great rendition of "How Sweet It Is to Be Loved by You," Take 6's live record is not exactly my cup of tea. However, that is not to say that there is not immense talent lying between the mid-fifties style harmonies. Part church choir, part intimate lounge jazz, if you play it in your Gremlin and close your eyes for a while, you may forget you're not highbrow. It reminds me of the music they play at the Olive Garden or something you'd hear mixed into a soundtrack. Final verdict? Get married to it or propose to it. Play it on Sunday while you're putting on your best for church. It's just that kind of CD and yet as it turns over in my player, I think that maybe in addition to making me want to eat, dance, and feel rich, Take 6's Live album also grows on you. Take that.
