Jad Fair and Kramer

The Sound of Music: An Unfinished Symphony in 12 Parts

Shimmy Disc

Collaborations between New York City musical masterminds always seem to be interesting efforts, if a bit limited in audience. Jad Fair's declarative twang recites half-songs/half-stories, set to Kramer's space-cantina psychedelia. The method behind this album -- Kramer supplies the music and Fair listens, composes lyrics and records them in a single day -- results in a very uneven recording, but its bits of brilliance are worth hearing.
