On April 13th, 2003 Putumayo World Music began a year long celebration of its 10th Anniversary. The label has planned a year long celebration of exciting activities, with not only cross-cultural music, but educational and corporate social responsibility angles as well.

Along with their never ending release schedule, the label is compiling a 10th anniversary limited edition box set retrospective, which includes a cd-rom with artist videos and the Putumayo story. It will include a booklet that explores the history of Putumayo, a world music guide to labels, magazines, websites, festivals, etc. They anticipate that this retrospective will serve as a tool where people can learn more about world music.

They've also produced two one-hour television world music specials for airing on BETJAZZ/BET. It will also be made available to television networks around the world. The first show, based on the Global Soul release, is hosted by Speech from the group Arrested Development and will air May 23. In the Summer, BETJAZZ and other international networks will air the Putumayo 10th Anniversary Special.

To cap it off, the Putumayo folks are planning anniversary celebrations in association with major festival organizers this summer in the US and Amsterdam. On August 9th, they will present The Putumayo 10th Anniversary World Music Festival at Sedona as part of the Sedona Cultural Park Festival series in Sedona, Arizona with performances from Putumayo recording artist Oliver Mtukudzi and both Los Lobos and Geno Delafose, who have been featured on Putumayo compilations.
