Original MTV VJ JJ Jackson Dead at 62

J.J. Jackson, one of the original quintet of VJs on MTV, has died. Jackson, who returned to his radio roots after five years with MTV, died of an apparent heart attack Wednesday (March 17) in Los Angeles. He was 62. Along with Mark Goodman, Martha Quinn, Alan Hunter and Nina Blackwood, Jackson introduced MTV to the world in 1981. He worked for the cable channel until 1986, then went back to Los Angeles and resumed his career in radio.

Love Will Tear Herself Apart

Not content to debase herself in the courtroom, radio and TV, Courtney Love is taking her nutjob act to the road. Love was arrested last night in NYC after hurling a microphone stand into an audience and striking a man in the head. Apparently, Love had no idea she had injured anyone. Apparently, nobody told her that these were real metal microphone stands, not the fake rubber ones she uses in therapy.

Police have decided not to charge a young Maine man after his suicide-by-crucixion attempt failed. To quote Neil: "...that's a really horrible way to kill yourself, man... I've tried, there's no way you can hammer in the last nail."

Search engine overture.com released its faintly amusing list of Britney Spears-related searches for the month of February. Out of a staggering 3.8 million total searches, it warms one's heart to know that 6679 people were able to cobble together the search phrase "britney spears boob."

Le Tigre... on a major?!?!?

Indie rockin' feminist icons Le Tigre have signed to Universal's new Strummer imprint, and plan a new album for late summer (which may include some tracks produced by Ric Ocasek). They're also considering an offer to join the next Lollapalooza tour. Strange times... but more power to the ladies!
