It's a Beautiful Day...for U2

It's been 25 years already since U2 first warmed our cockles? In that time, four spry Irish lads with some instruments and a dream have become icons, gigantic beyond words and their frontman now a political ambassador to the world. Returning the favor six years later, none other than The Boss himself introduced them as they were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

South by Southwest Fest Now Underway

Austin's annual cavalcade of across-the-board bands kicks off today, making the rest of us around the country who can't make the trip green with envy. SXSW is to indie music what Miami's Winter Music Conference is to dance, this year featuring everyone from Germany's electro-dabblers Ratatat to New Jersey avant-hoppers Dalek. Plus, you can be just as hedonistic in Austin as you would in Miami, minus all the trappings of South Beach's plastic pomp n' circumstance.

FCC Lightens Up a Bit

In a move surprising for a fine-happy FCC, the governing body of broadcasting ruled the Terrell Owens-Nicolette Sheridan spot (where Sheridan dropped towel and jumped into Owens arms) on Monday Night Football is not indecent. Conservatives, puritans and Trent Lott supporters everywhere are likely aghast, but the rest of us who are sane can applaud the Commission for once on their ruling.
