Queensryche Working On Operation: Mindcrime Sequel

from the Leave It Alone dept.

I'll admit, in eighth grade it was THE pivotal metal album for me and I still say it spawned some of the cooler black t-shirts ever, but some concept albums about insanity, murder and nuns as prostitutes were never meant to be revisited! And yet, fresh off touring the original "Mindcrime" set, Queensryche is undeterred. Sez 'Ryche mainman Geoff Tate: "I realized there were a lot of vague areas, so I began to fill in those areas. Before I knew it, I had a large amount of material written." Though I must admit, certain world events are making the "bleak" world of Mindcrime seem a lot closer to everyday events. How 'bout that?

Black Metal Conceptual Art At Whitney Museum

from the Heaven Shall Burn... When We Are Gathered dept.

New York's Whitney Museum of Modern Art is hosting an art installation by Banks Violette that is conceptually based on the infamous rash of church burnings undertaken in the early 90s by black metal musicians and followers, including members of Burzum and Emperor. Violette's untitled assemblage is "a salt replica of a ruined church skeleton, poised atop a shiny black epoxy stage that almost fills the Whitney Museum's small lobby gallery." Accompanying this stark construction is, intriguingly, a 90-minute musique concrete piece composed by black metal pioneer Thorns' Snorre Ruch alongside Jon Wesseltoft and Finn Olav Holthe. Head on down to the Whitney to see high art try to match up with the rawness of black metal.

Tom and Katie Do What Heterosexuals Do At MTV Awards

from the Of Course I'm In Love, I'm Jumping On Your Couch Aren't I? dept.

Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, Hollywood's normallest couple, caused quite a stir among the usually jaded types at the MTV Awards. First they came roaring up to the red carpet on the straightest, butchest motorcycle ever, and then they "disappeared for the whole night into a room with (Holmes') p.r. guy, a stylist, a hairdresser, a makeup person and six Scientologists, including Tom's sister [and p.r. woman] Lee Anne DeVette. They did not come out except for when they went onstage — did not mingle with anyone in the green room — and then left." But for any of you doubters and tongue-cluckers, Tom and Katie were spontaneously consumed by their unstoppable, natural love the very next morning in the Regent Beverly Wilshire, and began madly necking "in the hallway in front of all the journalists and TV people in between every interview." Onlookers called it "unnecessary" and "gross." I bet they said the same thing about Romeo and Juliet.

When it comes to figuring out if you're digesting things properly and eating healthy, Dr. Mehmet Oz says that you should rely on your senses in the bathroom. For starters, have you ever thought about the importance of what your bowel movement sounds like when it hits the water? Listen up!

Bob Geldof and Band Aid Trust announce Live 8 shows

from the Feed The World... Again! dept.

Twenty years after the Live Aid concerts in London and Philadelphia raised millions to help the starving, Bob Geldof and co. announced plans for five concerts to coincide with the upcoming G8 meeting in England. The concerts will be held in London, Berlin, Philadelphia, Paris and Rome (five of the eight G8 countries) on July 2, and unlike Live Aid, the concerts will be free events -- the idea is to work for political change as a solution to the world hunger problem.
