Will the real Hick Hop please stand up?
from the True Originals dept.
For several years prior to Cowboy Troy's high profile intro into the national spotlight as a purveyor of "Hick Hop," Austin, Texas' Asylum Street Spankers have been performing just that. Penned by Spankers' co-founder and co-frontman Wammo, the song "Hick Hop" (a blend of hip hop and country) has been recorded and released on two separate CDs - one of Wammo's 3 solo CDs and the last Asylum St. Spankers CD - and on the band's DVD Sideshow Fez. Links to all three are below.
Check out the original Hick Hop and see how it stands-up next to the stadium country version.
Wammo would be happy to go hat to hat and boot to boot with Cowboy Troy on a Hick Hop throw-down. A verbal duel, new old-west style. What could be more Hick Hop than that?
Video from the DVD Sideshow Fez shot at the Fez Ballroom, Portland, Oregon, on August 15, 2003
Audio from the Wammo album, Faster than the Speed of Suck recorded 1997, released 2001
Audio from the Asylum Street Spankers album Mercurial recorded March 2003, released February 2004

FOX Passes On Jackson Family Reality Show
from the Cats Sleeping With Dogs! dept.
Now THAT'S some weirdness! FOX, the network that brought you "My Big Fat Obnoxious Fiance" and "Who's Your Daddy?" has turned down, yes, turned down the Jackson family's pitch for a reality show. The series was to be "based on their ups and downs during the singer's child molestation trial." Really, nothing more can be said. Except that A&E, the network responsible for that fifth horseman of the apocalypse, "Growing Up Gotti," also passed.
