Mana "China" Nishiura, drummer for avant-garde Tokyo garage band DMBQ, was killed Nov. 4 when the group's tour van rolled in a traffic accident in Delaware, according to Seattle's Sunset Tavern and various web sources. Nishiura's bandmates — Shinji Masuko, Toru Matsui and Ryuichi Watanabe — were injured in the crash, but are expected to make a full recovery, sources say. Panache Magazine's Michelle Cable, travelling with the band, suffered a head injury and is still hospitalized. DMBQ was travelling to Brooklyn for a gig that night. A number of venues on the band's tour, including the Sunset, have announced benefit/tribute shows in lieu of the group's appearance. Nishiura was a member of Shonen Knife from 2001-2004. No further details are available.
