Queens of the Stone Age Start Sixth Album

from the they're back! dept.

Josh Homme heads back to the studio for the band's sixth album while embarking on yet another new side project. After the successful release of 2005's Lullabyes to Paralyze, his fifth album with Queens of the Stone Age, Josh Homme is back at work in the studio, NME.com reports. While he and his other QOTSA bandmates write material for the next album, Homme has also found the time to start another project, the 5.15ers. Completing the band is Chris Goss, who has previously collaborated with Homme on both his Desert Sessions projects and production with Kyuss, Homme's first band. The 5.15ers will concentrate more on playing live than recording an album, but have yet to perform.

Dave Matthews Band Saves The Ice Caps!

from the Gosh, aren't they wonderful! dept.

American rockers the Dave Matthews Band and its fans have been bad for the environment since 1991, and now the group is making amends.

In a move to help ease global warming, the band will participate in a carbon dioxide emissions "offsetting" program that will eliminate pollution equivalent to 36 million average car miles, or about what the band, and its fans, have produced on the road over the past 15 years.

[Editor's Note: Compare Cloud Cult putting their activism where their tour goes as reported in NPR and elsewhere.]

Fader magazine has made its entire summer music issue available for download on iTunes, in what it says is a publishing first. The full issue is free to download as a PDF file, which offers a digital copy of every page — article and ads — in the magazine. It's accompanied by a 47-minute podcast featuring music covered by the magazine.
